Whale Watching in South Africa
Author: admin

The town of Plettenburg Bay, South Africa, is famous for whale watching excursions where visitors see migrating humpback, southern right and Bryde’s whales; three species of dolphins and great white sharks. The ORCA foundation, a private initiative founded by the ecotourism company Ocean blue Adventures, seeks to protect the health and habitat of these animals while reducing poverty in the region.

Going Coastal in South Africa

South Africa shoreline is a surf-and-turf spectacle. 21 different ecosystems, from sand forests to lakes, lagoons, wetlands and pristine stretches of beach are home to hippos, crocodiles, giant turtles and more than 450 bird species.
Grasslands and coastal forests extend to a coral-reef-lined sea to form the pristine ecosystem of Maputaland, where a day’s worth of sights includes both elephants and whales.
Phinda Lodge on the East Coast of South Africa is the place to go for loads of activities in addition to game viewing. You can go scuba diving, horse back riding on the beach, deep-sea fishing, make a night beach expedition to watch the turtles seasonal egg laying or explore the nearby Zulu culture. Among the watery fun is the annual sardine run, in June and July, when more than 20,000 dolphins and sharks follow enormous schools of fish as they migrate up the coast.
Thanda Private Game Reserve is a deluxe safari resort - a far cry from simple camps - that serves as an upscale romantic retreat and gateway to 3 distinct experiences: the Elephant Coast, the safari savanna and the Zulu tribal heritage.
I’m going to South Africa with my family for vacation for one week only. We’ll spend 2 days in Sun City and then 5 in Cape Town. This is my first time there so I was wondering what things or activities I should do or shouldnt miss on my trip?
You should go to the gardens and the museum in Cape Town. Also, go to the Waterfront. Then there’s Tafelberg, just don’t wander away from other people because people do get mugged there. Greenpoint is also nice. Greenmarket square is a good place to browse for memorabilia, but expensive as they cater for tourists. There is a flea market next to Cape Town station too, they are a bit cheaper. If you can travel, you have to go to Somerset West and surrounding areas too. There are many little zoo’s, reptile parks and Butterfly World in that area.
Best time of year to travel to South Africa?

I hope to vacation in South Africa next year. What is the best time of year to travel to South Africa and why?
Depends on what you want to do. Hit the beach - go end of January to February. Go on Safari - May to end of August is good. Shopping spree - anytime you like. What’s also important is where you want to go. If you’re going to the Western Cape (Cape Town area) it’s best to avoid going in winter, as it’s rainy season. Port Elizabeth and the Eastern Cape area is best avoided by those who don’t like windy days. Durban and the KwaZulu Natal coastal areas are not for those who don’t like humid weather. But this area provides the best swimming experience in the country. Best go around the end of January to February. To be avoided from November to middle January - student and scholar peak season. The Northern Cape is excellent for flower lovers - go somewhere in September or October and take lots of suntan lotion! Whenever you go, and whatever you do, make sure you enjoy it!

Is South Africa a Good Place to Go For a Vacation?
Author: admin
I am thinking of going on vacation but I’m not sure where I want to go. South Africa seems like a cool place, but I really know nothing about the country. Could someone please tell me if this is a good place to go to and what its like?
South Africa is a GREAT place to take a vacation! There is really such a wide range of things to do, whether you want to party in Cape Town or go on safari at Kruger National Park. I’m not sure how long you would be there, but I’d recommend a few weeks if you want to see a lot and not feel rushed. I’d also be aware that things are a little cool and damp during their winter months June-October, but you can never really tell what it will be like. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve been to. You can visit Robben Island and see Nelson Mandela’s prison cell, hike up Table Mountain and get a great ariel view (I repelled down the side of it if you’re looking for more adventure), plus there’s great shops and restaurants if you’re looking for more of a mainstream scene. I wouldn’t do a township tour here because they are really commercial, wait until you’re in a smaller city or town and check out the townships there, its a great experience. I’d also recommend traveling the Garden Route. This is a stretch of highway between Cape Town and the Eastern Cape. Its so beautiful with plenty of smaller towns to stop at on the way through. The highway winds along the ocean, so make sure you travel this during the day! Stop off at Bloukrans Bridge and do the bungee jump there - another great stop if you’re a thrill seeker. Kruger is a great game reserve if you have a couple of days to go and camp out, but there are also lots of game reserves throughout South Africa. The animals you see there are so beautiful since they are in their natural habitat.
I am flying into Johanessburg, then to Richards Bay, then on Safari in the south, then to Durban, and then to Cape Town. Will I need a visa at anytime during this 14 day vacation if I have a US Passport?
You don’t need a Visa.
